You’ve heard the saying “practice what you preach”, Janet is now joyfully “preaching” (teaching) what she’s practiced over the years.

I have known Janet for over a decade, first as a colleague at McKesson, then as a friend.

As a colleague, she embraced a holistic approach to problem solving, bringing a win/win attitude to all interactions.  From gaining consensus, to exploring alternatives, to resolving situational conflicts, Janet clearly communicated the goal of each interaction up front, then focused the participants through active listening and constructive dialogues to accomplish this goal.  She asked for commitment and accountability from each participant to each other.  Generally, the participants left such interaction(s) with a positive attitude.

As a friend, Janet has faced personal challenges and tragedies with grace.  She acknowledged pain and uncertainty; asked for assistance, comfort or “space”; then moved beyond the uncertainty and grief while remaining engaged in a circle of friends and her community.  She emerged more compassionate , more insightful and stronger.

Throughout Janet's formal training in mindfulness, she generously shared her enthusiasm by holding mindfulness sessions for her colleagues.  The participants generally left these sessions more relaxed, and more self-aware.

It is natural that THIS practitioner becomes a TEACHER.

Debbie Wong, Business Technology Solutions Professional

I have known Janet for almost 10 years.

Working in the Information Technology job environment things get stressed at times due to the project deadlines and resource limitations. I had always wondered how Janet manages her composure while managing large and complex IT projects. I realized that she always applies mindfulness in every aspect of her life.

One of the instances I clearly remember is during PI (3 months IT Portfolio Projects) Planning  it is always a stressful time to showcase last 3 months of work and prioritize and plan for next 3 months, Janet sensed the mood in the room and spoke to the teams to spend 15 minutes during the break time.  We had a mindfulness session and it helped tremendously lower the stress levels not only for that moment but I still apply it in every situation of my life. I am fortunate to know and be able to talk to Janet when I need to pause and analyze my thought process to make sure they are in the right direction.

Janet Roos is one of those teachers who holds space in such a compassionate, joyful, gentle, and sincere way that you can explore your most expansive self with unexpected grace and ease in her presence; as though her words are the light dancing around all you see and feel within you. She guided our mentor group on silent (online) retreat in March 2021 with deft kindness and such a smile and gaze that I knew every part of me was welcome. The readings she chooses and her mindfully paced meditations also offer genuine, down to earth guidance and support for navigating what is arising with self-compassion and calm. I only wish she was in my country so that beyond the pandemic, I could attend her sessions in person!
